Our History

The Jefferson County Housing Authority was created in 1968 by the Jefferson County Commissioners in order to help the citizens of the county find affordable housing. The Housing Authority provides assistance to nearly 600 families or individuals through the programs we administer. The cost of housing is a major concern and expense for everyone. JCHA helps residents become more self-sufficient by reducing the financial burden that housing costs represent. As a result, financial assets can be used to improve other aspects of the resident’s lives, such as education, training, career enhancement and overall standard of living. The Jefferson County Housing Authority does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, familial status, age, religion or disability. This institution is an equal opportunity housing provider and employer.
